I was surprised to find my co-worker never heard of the term “crop circle”— and even more surprised that most people lack minimal background knowledge! Personally, I have a deep fascination for crop circles. I make it a habit to search crop circle databases like The Crop Circle Archives monthly in hopes of uncovering the next crop circle design.
WHAT IS A CROP CIRCLE?
Crop Circle: a geometric pattern, often very intricate and complex, appearing in fields, usually wheat fields and usually in England.
The Skeptic’s Dictionary offers a reasonable explanation. Rather than assume crop circles form any old geometric pattern though, I’d link them directly to sacred geometry. Moreover, crop circles are now found in countries all over the world, including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The Czech Republic and Canada. China and South Africa are the only countries deprived of crop circles.
I’d like to add that crop circles are a phenomenon; one that is no longer limited to crops! When you think of crop circles, you may imagine a wheat field, but as of late, the “Circle-makers” (term coined from Barbara Hand Clow’s Alchemy of 9 Dimensions) have experimented with other bizarre mediums, like ice and snow!
UNIQUE CROP CIRCLE CHARACTERISTICS
Artists and pranksters have been able to mimic the crop circle phenomenon by “beating grass”, or using a wooden device to flatten crops. Some pranksters lead the public to believe that all crop circles are hoaxes.
To combat their ignorance, the Circlemakers have created more and more complex crop circles, spanning great distances. Considering how fast authentic crop circles appear (literally in the blink of an eye), it would take an amazing engineering fit to produce similar results. See Arguments Against The Hoax Theory Of Crop Circles by Joseph E. Mason.
General Characteristics of Authentic Crop Circles
- They appear mostly in the middle of the night, in a matter of seconds
- Crop circles often span great distances
- The more sophisticated ones display complex, geometrical patterns
- The crops affected show signs of radiation; crops are permanently bent at a 45 or 90 degree angle
- Only a particular type of crop (or medium) is targeted; any other plants, grass or crops inside the composition remain untouched
- Plants in genuine circles are weaved together in a particular way when they are flattened; the plants overlap each other, and gently spike into the standing crop in a spoke-effect creating the circle
- Crop circles have increased electromagnetic measurements at the center (10 times the radiation level of a normal field)
- Sometimes emanate at 5 KHz frequency just a few days after formation
Crop circle formations often appear in canola (oil seed rape) fields. The crops have a consistency like celery. If the stalk is bent more than about 45-degrees, it snaps apart. However, in a ‘genuine’ crop circle formation, the stalks are often bent flat at 90-degrees.
HISTORY
Even though we think crop circles appeared in modern times, there are accounts dating far back in history.
Fairy Circles (Fairy Rings)
A fairy ring is a naturally occurring ring or arc of mushrooms. Folklore across many European traditions warns about trespassing into fairy rings. They were believed to be the location of gateways into elfin kingdoms, or places where elves gather and dance.
“The Mowing Devil”
The earliest documented crop circle is that of the “Mowing Devil”, in 1678. Legend has it that a landlord refused to pay the price demanded by a laborer to mow his field. The landlord swore that he would rather have the Devil mow it instead. That night, his field appeared to be glowing, as if it were engulfed in flame. The next morning, the field was found to be perfectly mowed—unnaturally perfect.
CROP CIRCLES AND SPIRITUALITY
Scientists are too baffled to come up with any reasonable explanation for the occurrence of crop circles! A large number of crop circle enthusiasts turn to spirituality or answers.
The Realm of Sacred Geometry and the Merkabah
An easy to way to look at “crop-circle technology” is from Drunvalo Melchizedeck’s point of view. He wrote plenty of books on the topic of sacred geometry, and how it relates to the Merkabah. What is the Merkabah? Some ancient texts refer to this as the “chariot of light” and you can think of it as the inner “spiritual technology”. Practitioners of Kundalini Yoga and Merkabah mediation claim to have jump-started their own Merkabah. Many people believe that ETs are actually using their internal Merkabah to travel through different dimensions. If humans can do it, why not ETs? We often hear of sightings of strange, organic, alien ships made of pure light that seem to expand or contract. This coincides with the crop circle witness reports of expanding discs (or balls) of light.

The Study of Cymatics
Another explanation lies in the field of Cymatics. Cymatics is the study of how sound affects form. Sound a bit strange? (No pun intended) Actually, it isn’t. You can see some Cymatics experiments on YouTube. All you need is a good, flat, metallic conductor, some really light particles of matter – and sound waves! When you change the sound frequency, the particles form different symmetrical patterns. This may be the technology the Circlemakers are using. These experiments have also been performed with water as a medium.

WHY SHOULD WE CARE?
Spiritually-oriented people believe that a higher intelligence is attempting to communicate with us. What are the messages in the crop circles? It depends on the crop circle! Probably the most classic crop circle is the one in Barbury Castle in England. It clearly spells out PI! See Crop Circle Depicts PI for a complete explanation.
Meditating on a crop circle design is said to be highly beneficial and can even trigger one’s “cellular memory”.
